Game Information Group 1 Marshmallow Fight Club is a card game about character creation and fighting. Players create their own unique characters using a selection of gear items, and then those characters fight using their special gear abilities to turn the battle to their advantage! Target Audience: Ages 6-12, Competitors, Storytellers, and Artists seeking a fast-paced, highly replayable Player vs Player experience When we got assigned the project Going into this project, I was very excited because this time we’d be creating a completely original idea for a board game! Albeit with a few constraints. Our group was assigned to make a fighting game with a theme of marshmallows! I thought that this combo was super exciting! However, I was also worried, because when I heard the term “fighting game” I pictured games like street fighter or tekken or smash brothers. But how do you translate a game like that to a board game?? My own First Ideas I was utterly stumped at how me and my gro...

Solitaire: Joker's Gambit Postmortem! (V3)

Group 5 Solitaire: Joker’s Gambit is a modified version of Solitaire in which the inclusion of the Joker cards provides a new layer of depth and strategy to the game. Managing your Jokers carefully will allow you to gain an edge, but get careless and you’ll risk ending your game!! Target Audience: Puzzle Solvers, Fans of Solitaire who want to play the game with a new twist/challenge Solitaire: Extreme! Has changed a lot since my last post here! Our playtests of the second iteration of this project had brought a significant problem to light. The game just felt like Solitaire. This I believe stemmed from two factors: One, the consequence of moving a face down card to the stock or tableau didn't end up being as impactful as we had hoped, as either way it would just be found again later without any adjustment to the  strategy used. Second, the Joker cards would be taken out of circulation after they were triggered, meaning that once both had been used, the game was entirely th...

Solitaire: Extreme! Devlog 1 (V1-V2)

Group 5 For our Solitaire Project, we made a variation of Solitaire called Solitaire: Extreme! In our own game of solitaire, the joker cards are introduced as an obstacle, as encountering one means moving a card from where it was back into the stack! (or from the stack into the bottom of one of the piles). V1 When we were first assigned this project, my partner and I met up and brainstormed ideas for what we could do. One idea that my partner suggested was implementing the joker cards in some way, and we both agreed that the idea was very interesting! From there sadly we both had classes to be at, so we called it a day. Vinh’s example of Solitaire: Extreme! At the end of the day, I checked on the shared document me and my partner had, and they had put a list of rule changes they had implemented to include the jokers. Most involved moving cards from one place to another more unfortunate spot after uncovering the joker card. From here I began adding on by writing some instru...
